Dr. Salma Sultana is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Microbiology through the Intradepartmental Microbiology Graduate Program in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Iowa State University. Her doctoral research focuses on evaluating the effects of histotripsy on bacterial diseases, immune responses, and strategies for mitigating antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Dr. Sultana is recognized as the first female entrepreneur and development worker in the livestock sector in Bangladesh. She is the founder of the Model Livestock Advancement Foundation and the Model Livestock Institute and Veterinary Hospital in Dhaka. In acknowledgment of her significant contributions, Dr. Sultana was named one of the top 100 Asian scientists by Asian Scientist magazine in 2021. Additionally, she received the prestigious Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application from the World Food Prize Foundation in 2020 for her innovative veterinary outreach model that benefits small-scale farmers in Bangladesh.
