Microbiology Graduate Teaching Assistantships for 2019-2020

The Undergraduate Microbiology Program is seeking Graduate Teaching Assistants for Fall 2019 and Spring 2020.  We are seeking applicants who have a background in microbiology and an interest in teaching and providing mentorship to undergraduates from diverse backgrounds.

Graduate Teaching Assistant responsibilities include lab preparation, pre-running experiments, and grading assignments.  Teaching Assistants will have the opportunity to assist with development of new exercises and course improvements. To apply, please fill out the attached form and send it along with your CV to cbrillha@iastate.edu by Thursday April 18th.

Position Expectations:
For this TA appointment you will be expected to commit 20 hours a week for ½ time and 10 hours a week for ¼ time positions.

MICRO 201L Instruction Only (Fall and Spring): 
Introduction to Microbiology for non-majors where the goal is to teach basic micro laboratory techniques necessary to successfully work in research, clinical, or industrial micro labs.  The focus is on bacteriology with some introduction to immunology and biotechnology.  Teaching Assistant for MICRO 201L will be the independent instructor for lab sections that meet twice weekly for 80 minutes.  The TA will give pre-lab lectures, demonstrate skills, assist students, and evaluate student proficiencies.  First-time Teaching Assistants for these courses will also be required to shadow the lecturer in charge of the course during a regularly scheduled lab time.  TA will also mentor undergraduate teaching assistants in each lab section.
